Exactly a month after the murder of attorney Dana Seetahal, family members are still hopeful that police will arrest and convict her killers. Seetahal’s niece Danielle Francois, who met with police investigators yesterday to discuss her aunt’s murder, said she had confidence that the police were doing the best they could. Seetahal was ambushed and killed by gunmen while driving through Woodbrook last month. She had left the Ma Pau casino and was on her way to her home at One Woodbrook Place.

After passing the Woodbrook Youth Facility on O’Connor Street gunmen blocked her vehicle and fired shots. She died at the scene. Police have not been giving details of the investigation. Francois said: “It is taking long. I am concerned. However, I understand there are a lot of avenues to investigate and I know they need to make sure they secure a conviction or convictions, so they would have to ensure they have as much evidence as possible.”

She said police had kept in contact with family members but accepted they were trying to keep the information close. Chairman of Powerful Ladies of T&T (PLOTT) Gillian Wall said people were still petrified after Seetahal’s murder. “We are concerned about the progress of the investigation as well but we are mindful that the police may not want to share too much information,” Wall said.

She and her group have met every Saturday at the Queen’s Park Savannah since Seetahal’s murder for an hour-long late-night vigil to acknowledge the loss of Seetahal and the need for an increased respect for life across T&T. “There is not much confidence that someone will be brought to justice. We are dealing with a nation petrified and a lack of confidence in authorities to bring results,” Wall said. Police were up to yesterday continuing investigations.
