Two more murders have pushed the death toll to 169. Dead are Mathew “Cox” Weekes, of Sea Trace, Bagatelle, and Kion Griffith, of Maps Land, Laventille. According to police reports, around 8 pm on Friday Griffith, 26, and his cousin Martin King, 24, were outside their Maps Land home when they heard several loud explosions.
Relatives of the men ran outside and found King lying on the ground with gunshot wounds to this chest. Griffith was not found. After unsuccessfully searching for Griffith during the night, officers were called back to the scene around 9 am yesterday after a passerby spotted Griffith in a track along Snake Valley. In the second killing, police said Weekes was at home with his girlfriend around 12.10 am yesterday when a gunman entered an open door and opened fire on the sleeping couple.
Weekes was shot several times. The suspect escaped. Superintendent Edwards, Sgt Bacchus and PC Gordon visited the scene and investigations are continuing.
