The water supply to approximately 98,000 customers along the East-West Corridor was affected on Thursday night and yesterday when a water main ruptured in Arima. The Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA) is urging customers to use water wisely. The line was repaired at 5.25 pm yesterday, the company said in a media statement yesterday.

WASA's corporate communications head, Ellen Lewis, confirmed the 42-inch transmission main near Food Basket, Churchill-Roosevelt Highway, Arima, had ruptured around 9 pm on Thursday. In a release yesterday, Lewis said it might have resulted from a weak point or fault on the line. She said repairs began early yesterday morning and were scheduled to continue for 36 hours. In the meantime, Lewis said a limited truck-borne service was available, with priority being given to health institutions, special homes and schools.

WASA advised customers that they were currently flushing the lines and there will be a gradual restoration of the water supply by today.
