Event promoter AM Premium is investigating the source of the food poisonings which affected at least 30 patrons at a breakfast event last Thursday at Bay View Bar, Maracas. Prime promoter for the event, Marsha Thompson who is herself recovering from the food poisoning, said in a telephone interview that by a process of elimination the salt fish was found the likely culprit.

“We began to get calls from some patrons following the event that they had fallen ill. Some of the promoters and committee members had also fallen ill, so we did a bit of investigations by contacting as many guests as possible to find out what they consumed, what time they consumed it and what their symptoms were and it was narrowed down to the salt fish and the omelet, but more so the salt fish,” said Thompson.

She said the catering company, which was also used in the event last year, was contacted immediately and a meeting was set up to speak with them. However they are yet to meet as follow up calls and messages have been unanswered. In a message on the event’s Facebook page, it was stated the caterers for the event will not be retained for any of AM Premium’s future events. The message also asked patrons who had not yet been in contact with them to call 620-2676.

“We are truly sorry about what happened because people really enjoyed themselves at the event. We are really happy that the majority have been understanding, knowing that it was not our fault,” said Thompson. She said they sought the advice of a doctor who has posted information on the event’s Facebook page advising affected patrons how to care for themselves while recovering from the food poisoning.

Thompson said the committee has already decided to do something to give back in some way to all the affected patrons. “We are not sure yet exactly what we are going to do, but we well be doing something,” said Thompson.
