“Watch yuh back!” People’s National Movement chairman Franklin Khan sounded this warning to Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar as he put supporters in Siparia on standby to crank up their general-election machinery.
Speaking on Monday night at Team Rowley’s final meeting ahead of Sunday’s internal election, Khan said, “We want to send a message to the Prime Minister and the UNC and that message is, after Dr Keith Rowley is elected political leader on May 18, watch yuh back! We coming for you and we coming for the UNC.” Addressing the UNC heartland, Khan said the PNM was strong, getting stronger and under Rowley’s leadership would win the general election.
Khan said the internal election campaign had been long and hard, but highly rewarding and uplifting. Saying Team Rowley felt humbled by the massive support it had received, Khan said it would now hit the ground. He told supporters to look out for newspaper advertisements listing all the polling stations for Sunday’s election.
“Members of Team Rowley, I call on you tonight, your ground troops, continue your canvassing, fine-tune your election-day machinery. Be scientific in the whole process. Treat this election like you treat a general election, with the same level of mobilisation and skill you put into a general election.” Khan is among Rowley’s 14-member slate, which is going up against Pennelope Beckles-Robinson’s slate on Sunday.
