Each week, the Guardian Angel column highlights complaints sent in by you, the consumer, and provides solutions or directs you to the appropriate resource.

Problem: Tara Mahabir from Mayaro says since November 2013 the streetlight opposite her house has stopped working.  Ms Mahabir said: “Since then I’ve been calling 800-BULB a few times a month. I get an answering machine, state my name and the problem. I have had no feedback from them, I can’t even get a human being to respond.

“I called T&TEC and they said that they have nothing to do with street lighting since the present Government took it away from them. This is May, six months have gone and no response, no action. “I wonder how many other people are having this problem. Do we have a street-lighting crew in T&T?”

Solution: Ms Mahabir’s complaint was submitted to the T&TEC Street Lighting Department in Gasparillo and will be passed on to a repair crew for attention.

Problem: Denise Lightbourne in El Dorado said she made 650 contributions to NIS and this year she will be 62. Ms Lightbourne said, “I filled out my NIS form in July 2012 and till now I have not received any money.” Ms Lightbourne said she went in to the Tunapuna office in March and after waiting for an hour she was given another form with a new date. But when she returned to NIB last month, she was told she would have to wait another three months.

Solution: Ms Lightbourne’s case was forwarded to NIB and the manager of the Tunapuna Service Centre asked for her to return to the office to discuss her employment history as it relates to her last employer.
