T&T has lost a champion. So said the US embassy in Port-of-Spain yesterday as it extended condolences to the family of Senior Counsel Dana Seetahal, who was murdered on Sunday morning as she made her way to her Woodbrook home. The embassy, in a statement on its Facebook page, stated: “We trust that, in response to the brazen attack that claimed her life, the law enforcement community will bring the same level of diligence, intellect, and passion to this case that Dana consistently brought to all of hers.” Seetahal, the release said, was a “friend” and an alumna of the US State Department’s Fulbright Programme.

“She was our frequent partner in programmes to build the capacity of T&T’s law enforcement and judicial sectors,” the release added. The embassy expressed its sincere condolences to Seetahal’s family members, all of whom “have lost a cherished member, to the legal fraternity who have lost a bright light in the struggle to ensure justice for all, and to the people of T&T who have lost a champion.” Yesterday one Facebook user, Frankie Sammy, in reply to the embassy’s statement, asked: “Can you pledge US assistance in bringing her killers to justice?”
