Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar has promised to leave no stone unturned in the investigation of the murder of Dana Seetahal, SC.
She made the statement today after convening an emergency meeting of the National Security Council on learning of Seetahal’s killing in Woodbrook earlier.
Persad-Bissessar is the head of the council.
Seetahal, who was involved in many high-profile cases, was a state prosecutor in the trial of 12 men accused of the murder of central businesswoman Vindra Naipaul-Coolman.
Seetahal was shot some 12 times as she was driving along Hamilton-Holder Street. She had just left the Ma Pau casino on French Street and was on her way to her One Woodbrook Place home.
Police said as she reached the Woodbrook Youth Facility, a Nissan Wingroad car suddenly stopped in front of her Volkswagen Touareg. A white panel van then pulled alongside and a gunman opened fire.
Seetahal was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators have described her killing as a well executed hit.
Persad-Bissessar said she also spoke with Chief Justice Ivor Archie yesterday and has agreed to meet at the earliest possible time to discuss necessary reforms in the criminal justice system, including security issues.
Seetahal’s killing has sent shock waves through the legal fraternity, with some attorneys, especially those who deal with state matters involving organised crime, calling for special protection.
Police have not yet made any arrests but said they were working on several leads, including a possible link to the Naipaul-Coolman trial.
