Southern Division police up to last night were searching for the relatives of a man who they shot dead in Claxton Bay yesterday. According to police, the man was shot once in the hip after he reportedly attacked a Task Force officer with a knife. Reports stated that around 11 am, the officers were on patrol in St Margaret’s Village when they spotted the suspect walking along the road. On seeing the police, the suspect began running, causing the officers to become suspicious and give chase. After he was caught, he allegedly pulled out a knife and tried to stab the officer, who drew his service revolver and fired a single shot.
The suspect was taken to the San Fernando General Hospital where he died while undergoing emergency surgery. On searching the suspect, officers found a package of marijuana in his pocket. No one in the area could identify him and police are now seeking the public’s assistance. His description was given as Afro-Trinidadian, in his late 20s, five feet, six inches tall, low haircut, dark complexion and medium built. He was bareback and was wearing a black three-quarter black trousers. ASP Zamsheed Mohammed and Inspector Don Gajadhar visited the scene and ASP Williams is investigating.
