People’s National Movement (PNM) leader Dr Keith Rowley again has questioned the silence of the Prime Minister amidst allegations of collusion in prison litigation matters. Speaking at the Fifth Company Baptist School in Moruga on Tuesday night, Rowley asked: “Where is your interest when a PM could be sitting absent while the AG is waging war against the country?”
Rowley on Monday had called on Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar to investigate claims made by former solicitor general Eleanor Donaldson-Honeywell last August. On Tuesday night he said Attorney General Anand Ramlogan was trying to protect himself. “The Attorney General is trying to confuse you,” he warned. Rowley also defended the party’s election committee, general secretary Ashton Ford and the registration of voters for the May 18 elections amid complaints by his opponents.
He said the only way that someone could join the PNM was by filling out an application, which was then screened by the membership committee established by the party constitution. “Because there are some people we don’t want in the PNM at all, because we don’t know how they will behave, or we know how they behave and we don’t want them to bring the party into disrepute.” However, he said the average person could join the PNM.
The membership screening committee, he said, would then send the list to the general council, which would either accept or reject the list, in whole or in part. “And you think those on television talking don’t know that? They want to be leader of the party, they want to be this, they want to be that and you are misrepresenting the party’s processes to give the country the impression that something terrible is happening in the PNM,” he added.
