Sacha Singh has now moved from the “Sharma tawa” to the local food business. Singh, the managing director of AMS Biotech Security Concept and AmSure T&T Ltd, who burst into the spotlight as the former girlfriend of tourism minister Chandresh Sharma—whom she reported to the police for alleged assault—can now add restaurant owner to her title.

Her restaurant, AMS Curry and Local Cuisine, at Piarco Plaza Mall, will be officially opened on Thursday, but customers were led by their noses to the tantalising fragrances of food that was taste-tested yesterday. She said customers told her that the curry tasted “real good” and they would be back on opening day for more.

With laughter in her voice, Singh said, “We ran out of roti...We didn’t plan to open today—we did a taste-test today, and a lot of customers came. We did the sampling and tasting and a flood of people came. They were led by their nose, because the curry smelled so good...they came, tasted it, and were so satisfied.

“Just like the drama (involving Fyzabad MP Chandresh Sharma) was big, this restaurant is bigger, and I have risen above the whole episode and moved forward, opening my restaurant.” She said after the incident some people made negative remarks—such as vicious barbs that all she had done was to date a married man and a minister—but she has since picked herself up and is moving on. Singh said the publicity, though negative, could act as positive marketing for her new business.
