Minister of Science and Technology, Dr Rupert Griffith will deliver the feature address at the opening ceremony of the inaugural International Conference on Science and Technology for Economic Diversification (INSCITED).

The conference, which is taking place at the Hilton Trinidad from June 5-7, is being organised by the National Institute of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology (Niherst) and is being held in collaboration with the National Institute of Science, Technology and Development Studies (Niastads) in India and the Organisation of American States (OAS).

Some of the world’s most influential industry experts in policy development, economic diversification and science and technology are expected to be part of the discussions during the three day event. T&T will also be represented by the Minister of Planning and Sustainable Development, Dr Bhoendradatt Tewarie and Minister of Tertiary Education and Skills Training, Fazal Karim, who will both be panelists at two of the sessions.

In commenting on the upcoming conference, Griffith said: “The collaboration with Niastads and OAS spearheaded by Niherst is a solid indication of the leadership position of Trinidad and Tobago in the Caribbean in the area of STI. “The calibre of speakers who are scheduled to speak and who hail from top institutions in the Caribbean, Switzerland, the UK, USA, India and South America leave no doubt that INSCITED is the foremost STI conference to attend in region.”
