A 48-year-old Vincentian national was arrested on Wednesday afternoon after he attempted to smuggle $2.2 million worth of cocaine to his homeland. According to reports, officers of the Port Police Task Force, led by Cpl Joseph and including constables Sookoo, Sinanan and Ashby, were at the Caricom Jetty, Port-of-Spain, around 1.30 pm when they noticed the man acting suspiciously. The man had dropped off a car fender, a door and a black container to be shipped to St Vincent. When officers searched the container they found the four packages of cocaine hidden among cases of juice and soft drinks. The drugs weighed 4.56 kilogrammes. The man is expected to be charged with attempting to export prohibited goods by officers of the Customs and Excise Division and possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking by the port officers.
