Investigations have begun into an incident on Thursday evening in Chaguaramas after four women were thrown off a pleasure craft at Scotland Bay and had to be rescued by Coast Guard personnel. Senior police officials said yesterday no incident report was entered in the station diary at the Carenage Police Station.
Coast Guard officials confirmed the incident. They said a group of 15 people were handed over to police officers between 7 pm and 8 pm on Thursday at Staubles Bay, Chaguaramas. The incident reportedly occurred aboard a pleasure craft around 6 pm when three women from the Carenage area joined the party having been invited by the male hosts. The Carenage women were transported by a 22-foot pirogue to the yacht which remained anchored just off Scotland Bay.
The report said women on board expressed displeasure at the last minute invitation. The report also said the women got into a war of words which escalated into a brawl with bottle pelting and a fist-fight. It is believed that during the fight, four women were pushed overboard. Coast Guard officers on patrol heard the commotion and observed the women in the water.
Of the four women pulled from the water, two had to be treated for cuts and bruises. The yacht was subsequently towed to the Coast Guard headquarters. Police officers later transported two women to the St James Medical Centre for treatment.
