Homicide detectives are investigating two cases in which decomposing human remains were found in separate areas of Arima yesterday. The first body was found by a female farmer on her parcel of land at Bypass Road, Mt Pleasant. Police said around 2 pm, the woman was clearing the land for planting when she stumbled upon a skelton in a patch of bushes. She contacted police and a party of officers led by Insp Eric Parks and Cpl Sunil Ramoutar responded to the call.

Investigators said they believe the victim was a man because of its height and the fact that a male watch was found on the wrist. Police said they were unable to determine if his death was caused by violence due to the poor condition of the body. The bones were collected and taken to the Forensic Science Centre, St James, for forensic testing.

Almost an hour later, the same group of officers were called to Farm Road, Heights of Guanapo, after a body was spotted floating in a river. Although police and crime scene investigators were on the scene up to late yesterday, the victim had not been identified. Police said the victim, who was nude and in a semi-decomposed state, was found floating head down in the river. The body was eventually fished out the river and taken to the FSC for an autopsy scheduled for this morning.

Detectives of the Region Two Homicide Bureau are continuing investigations into both incidents.
