Caribbean Development: Standing Still or Standing Tall? Theoretical, Empirical and Policy Changes is the theme of the 15th annual conference of the Sir Arthur Lewis Institute of Social & Economic Studies (Salises), from April 23 to 25 at Hyatt Regency, Port-of-Spain. This year’s distinguished lecturer is Peter Blair Henry, dean of New York University’s Leonard N Stern’s School of Business and William R Berkley Professor of Economics and Finance.
Henry is an expert on the global economy who led the external economics advisory group for then-Senator Barack Obama’s presidential campaign in 2008. Henry was subsequently chosen to lead the Presidential Transition Team’s review of international lending agencies, such as the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank. In June 2009, President Obama also appointed him to the President’s Commission on White House Fellowships, which is one of America’s most prestigious programmes for leadership and public service. Henry’s lecture will be delivered on April 24.
