Archbishop of Port-of-Spain Joseph Harris has invited all Catholics to join with Pope Francis and Catholics all over the world in spending a special period of common prayer at the Pro Cathedral of the Archdiocese, Our Lady of Perpetual Help RC Church, Harris Promenade, San Fernando, tomorrow between 11.30 am and 1 pm.
The activity is in relation to the Catholic Church’s observation of a Year of Faith which provides an opportunity for Catholics to experience a conversion—to turn back to Jesus and enter into a deeper relationship with him. According to Pope Francis, the two main intentions for asking cathedrals throughout the Catholic world to host this period of Eucharistic Prayer at the same time are:
“For the universal church spread throughout the world, that our united prayer will enable us to experience the Eucharist as a sign of unity and that we may be ever more obedient to hearing God’s Word,” and “For those around the world who still suffer slavery, and who are victims of war, human trafficking, drug-running, and slave labour, and the children and women who are suffering from every type of violence.”
In St Peter’s Basilica, the Holy Hour will be observed from 5 to 6 pm, Rome time. “All who can attend are most welcome,” said Archbishop Harris, “but as this time is usually a time for family Sunday lunch, all families can meet and pray together in solidarity with the Holy Father wherever they are.”
