Tobago East Member of Parliament Vernella Alleyne-Toppin and current chairman of the Tobago Organisation of the People Lionel Coker are expected to go head to head for the position of chairman in the party's internal election at the Rovanels Resort on Sunday. Following its 12-0 defeat in the Tobago House of Assembly Election in January, the TOP is expected hold it internal elections in accordance with its constitution.
The 11 executive positions being contested are: chairman, deputy chairman, general secretary, assistant secretary, treasurer, elections officer, public relations and communications officer, education and training officer, membership and mobilisation officer, women’s development officer and youth development officer. Both Alleyne-Toppin and Coker have expressed confidence at victory.
The post of political leader will not be at stake as Ashworth Jack’s tenure ends in 2014. The outgoing executive members are expected to give an account of their stewardship tomorrow as well.
