Ian Alleyne was unwell on Monday and so there was no show. CNC3 was able to use a re-run of a previous programme for the viewing enjoyment of his fans and for those who were looking at the show for the first time. Last week, however, Alleyne broke new ground when he brought a state witness on to his show wearing a disguise. Crime Watch thus continues to penetrate the world of crime, courts and other areas in new and exciting ways.
A state witness came on set to highlight how the state witness system was severely challenged. The witness was afraid that there were people who were looking for him and he was not happy with the police protection he was getting.
While Alleyne does push the envelope in many ways, he still tries to ensure that he stays inside the bounds of acceptable broadcast standards. Some people have said that he sails very close to the wind, others say he crosses the line with some of what of he does. Whichever way you want to view it, Alleyne has certainly captured the imagination of a significant block of the viewing public with his variety of topics and his personality.
This week, the Crime Watch column brings you a gallery of events from our unsolved mysteries section.
Unsolved Mysteries
On March 19, Norel Nandalal’s mother, Chrisendai, came to the Crime Watch show to seek justice for her son, who was also known as “Starboy.” Nandalal was a 39-year-old bus driver of 115 Gangaram Road, Busy Corner, New Grant. He was allegedly beaten by two individuals, Waheeda and Capil, aka “Toro,” at a Princes Town bar on March 14.
Nandalal left the bar after the altercation and was going home in his black Nissan B12, PAX 1129, when he got into an accident at the corner of Bhagwatee Road and Nachadee Road, New Grant. Nandalal died on March 18 at the San Fernando General Hospital from organ failure and brain damage. Crime Watch is investigating the circumstances of this incident and interviewed both Waheeda and Capil.
The case remains an unsolved mystery that Ian is following. Ian aired a video of Toro kicking Nandalal at Golden Rose Bar in Matilda in New Grant. This contradicts what Toro said that he did not have any altercation with Norel. It remains an unsolved mystery that Ian Alleyne will keep following.
