Convicted killer David John Pierre, who was recaptured on Thursday after nine months on the run, has been handed over to homicide officers investigating the murder of his brother Dominic Pierre. Pierre, 34, of Edoo Trace, Success Village, Laventille, who escaped from Carerra Island last June, was taken yesterday by homicide officers to assist in their investigation into Dominic’s murder.
Dominic, a Laventille taxi driver, was found with chop wounds about the body at the home of his brother Nigel Drago, of San Spring Road, Macaulay, Claxton Bay on November 16. Three days later he died at San Fernando General Hospital from his injuries. Investigators told the T&T Guardian Pierre will remain in police custody until inquires are completed. On Thursday at 2 pm, police from the Marabella and Gasparillo Police Stations went to a house at New City Street, Marabella and held him.
Pierre was sentenced to death in 2002 for murdering a Sangre Grande taxi-driver, 52-year-old Chanker Mootilal on February 28, 2000 at Toco Main Road, Vega de Oropouche. His sentence was commuted to life in 2003 after a Privy Council ruling that the death sentence was no longer mandatory.
