A 50-year-old Kelly Village man was found hanging in the holding cell of the Arouca Police Station on Wednesday night, hours after he was arrested for possession of cocaine. The man, identified as Caesar Ramdeo, was discovered dead around 7 pm when police were making routine checks of the cells, the T&T Guardian was told. Ramdeo was arrested on Wednesday during a police exercise held by the Northern Division at Thomas Trace, Arouca. The exercise was led by ASP James. Police said Ramdeo, who was one of several men held during the exercise, used his shirt and jeans to fashion a makeshift noose, which he tied to the burglarproofing bars near the roof of the cell. Emergency Health Services were called in but Ramdeo was already dead.
Sgt Pittley of the Arouca Police Station is continuing investigations.
