Cops still building case for DPP in schoolboy’s killing

As students prepare for tomorrow’s funeral service for slain 14-year-old Renaldo Dixon, homicide detectives have begun interviewing his schoolmates and teachers at the Waterloo Secondary School. Investigators said yesterday that the 16-year-old suspect, from Freeport, remained in police custody as police seek to gather sufficient evidence to take to the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Police said they had already begun taking statement from eyewitnesses, but it was a lengthy process and more people had to be interviewed. On Monday, Dixon, a Form Three student, was liming with a 13-year-old schoolgirl during the 10 am recess when another boy confronted him over the girl. After a brief conversation, the other boy pulled out a pocket knife and stabbed him three times, piercing his left lung.

The altercation is believed to have occurred over the girl, who, school officials said, is now being shunned by students who claim Dixon was killed because of her. Parent/Teacher Association president Anna Maria Jackson said counselling for parents and students was being given at the school following the incident. Dixon’s funeral will be held at his Bagna Trace, Chase Village, home from 11 am and will be followed by another service at the Mount Zion Spiritual Baptist Church in Chaguanas.
