The brother of People’s National Movement (PNM) political leader contender Penelope Beckles-Robinson was among ten people arrested yesterday for the possession of guns and ammunition, following a raid at two homes in Malabar. Beckles-Robinson confirmed the arrest of her brother according to CNC3 News report last night. The arrests came after four months of surveillance by the officers acting sergeant Haywood, Corporal Sookram and PCs Edwards, Andrews and Caraballo.
Beckles-Robinson’s brother, police said, was found in the first house with the gun stash. Beckles-Robinson was expected to make a statement on the matter at a political meeting in Sangre Grande, last night. Head of the Northern Division Task Force Senior Supt David Abraham said four illegal firearms were recovered during the exercise in Phase 3 by police. An AK 47 rifle, two revolvers, a pump action shot gun, and 72 rounds of ammunition were seized, Abraham said.
Abraham commended the officers. He said removing the high powered firearms off the streets should help in reducing crime. He said that acting Commissioner of Police Stephen Williams has mandated all divisions to decrease crime.
