The Petroleum Company of Trinidad and Tobago Limited (Petrotrin) has responded to reports of a gas smell in Penal.
In a statement issued this afternoon by their Corporate Communications Department, Petrotrin confirmed that at 9:30 pm last night, they got a report of a "gas smell emanating at Gopee Trace, Penal".
"Upon investigation, it was determined that a line being used to pump dam water from Parrylands to the Poine-a-Pierre Refinery developed a leak," the release said.
"Petrotrin set up a team inclusive of, Health Safety and Environmental and Operations personnel. Immediately, the line was isolated and repaired."
The company apologised to the affected residents and said that the regulatory agencies, as well as the Ministry of Energy and Energy Affairs have been informed.
In their statement, Petrotrin also tells residents the water in the lines "pose no threat to their health and safety".
