The man accused of having 5.6 kilos of explosives and four detonators in his possession has been granted $1.5 million bail. Clint Chai, 31, of Stephens Trace, Malabar, was placed on bail when he reappeared before Senior Magistrate Lucina Cardenas-Ragoonanan in the Arima Magistrates Court. He is charged with having in his possession two packets of magna frac emulsion explosives weighing 5.6 kilogrammes and four shot-tube detonators measuring 60 feet in length.

When he first appeared in court on May 24 he was denied bail by Magistrate Adrian Darmanie. Chai, a mechanic and father of one, was arrested by officers of the Arima CID on May 17, when police searched his garage at Get Well Avenue, Pinto Road, Arima. The explosives which are commonly used in quarrying, can only be obtained from one importer locally. Senior officers said Chai was not known to be involved in any activity relating to quarrying or mining. The matter was later adjourned to June 10.
