Hours after being held with a knife during J’ouvert celebrations in San Fernando, a reveller appeared in court and was jailed for two months. Nineteen-year-old Junior Noel told Senior Magistrate Lucina Cardenas-Ragoonanan in the San Fernando First Court that he had the knife for protection. It was around 5.45 am that Noel was held by a masquerader from a band at the corner of Coffee Street and Carib Street who handed him over to WPC Moore.

The officer searched Noel and found the eight-inch knife on him. He was arrested and charged with having a weapon in his possession, namely a knife, with intent to commit an indictable offence.
Noel told the magistrate he had the knife in the event that he was attacked. In that case, the magistrate said it was a good thing that he was not attacked. Police prosecutor Cleyon Seedan said the teenager had no previous convictions or pending matters. He was sentenced to two months hard labour.
