A 22-year-old man was killed in a gang-related shooting in Petit Valley yesterday, bringing the total number of people murdered during the Carnival weekend to four. Residents of Second Street, Ravine Road, contacted police around 5.45 am yesterday after they heard a volley of gunshots in their community. When officers led by Insp Thomas arrived on the scene they found the victim lying in an empty lot of land with gunshot wounds to his head and chest.
The victim, who was later identified as Kevon “Mo” Julien, of Savannah Terrace, Diego Martin, died on the scene. Investigators said Julien had an extensive criminal record, including several pending cases for firearm and ammunition possession, and was a known member of a gang in his community. Julien’s murder was the third in west Trinidad between Friday night and yesterday. Around 7.15 pm on Friday, Clinton “Mooney” John, 25, was shot dead outside his girlfriend’s home at Benedictine Street, Carenage.
Almost 12 hours later, police discovered the body of another murder victim at Gardier Street, Pt Cumuna. The victim, who was wearing a grey pants, white T-shirt and a back hat, is yet to be identified. In a separate incident, Keron Sampson, 26, of Bertrand Trace, Valencia, was shot dead while purchasing Chinese food in Valencia Junction on Friday night. The murder toll stood at 85 up to late yesterday evening.
Autopsies will be performed on the victims at the Forensic Science Centre, St James, on Wednesday. Senior Supt John Daniel and detectives of the Homicide Bureau of Investigations are continuing investigations.
