Two men who were found murdered last week have been identified as 33-year-old Kerron “Guilty” Nimchan and 56-year-old Sharma “Ice Cream” Maraj. Nimchan, a dentist, according to police reports, was discovered lying in a drain at the side of the road at Cemetery Street, Maryland, Belmont, on February 12. Police said the day before Nimchan’s body was found they received reports of gunshots in the area. When they responded they found nothing and left.
They returned the following morning and found his body in a narrow drain at the side of the road. An autopsy on the body of Nimchan of George Village, Tableland, at the Forensic Science Centre, St James, on Monday revealed he died from blunt force trauma to the head. His car, a white Nissan Sentra, was stolen, police said.
Maraj, of Saddle Road, San Juan, was found dead around 11 am on Saturday under the bailey bridge, Eastern Main Road, St Joseph, with his head bashed in. His autopsy report stated he too died of blunt force trauma to the head. Police reports stated that children went to fish in the river and saw his lifeless body. The murder toll is now at 73 while the comparative toll for last year stood at 62.
There were 23 recorded murders in Region 1 which covers Chaguaramas to Port of Spain; 33 in Region 11 which covers Port-of-Spain to Toco; 16 in Region 111 which covers South and Central Trinidad and one recorded murder in Tobago.
