It has been a competitive PowerGen Secondary Schools Cricket League season, and that trend continued yesterday in Carapichaima, as Amrish Rampersad took two wickets in one over to earn defending champions Hillview a tie against Carapichaima East Secondary. After Hillview was bundled out for 98, Carapichaima East was 98/8 and it seemed Carapichaima would be home and dry. Hillview captain Camillo Carimbocas turned to Rampersad, and he did not disappoint. Rampersad first took a return catch from Ryan Persad, as the score read 98/9. With the tension at fever pitch, Rampersad then got the prized wicket of Justin Collymore to end the match in a dramatic tie. Dejourn Charles and Dimitrius Edwards both made 21 for Carapichaima.
Earlier, Anderson Phillip (2/26) and Charles (2/17) took two wickets each to limit Hillview to 98 all out in 40.3 overs, while Jamalee Johnson top scored with 24. In Chaguanas, Vishnu Boys blew past leaders Presentation College Chaguanas by eight wickets at the Presentation ground. Shakeem Prince was brilliant, taking 4/10 and scoring an unbeaten 60. Batting first, Presentation was in cruise control on 67/0 with diminutive captain Kamil Pooran showing good form. Spin bowler Prince led the fight back, as Pres lost seven wickets for nine runs, as they reduced to 76/7. Prince was ably supported by national youth bowlers Bryan Boodram (3/16) and Jarlarnie Seales (2/11). Presentation limped to 102 all out in 41.3 overs thanks to some lower order resistance. Pooran top scored with 49, while Sachin Sooker (11) was the only other batsman to get into double figures. In reply, left-handed Prince demonstrated his ability with the bat, guiding his team to 103/2 in 30.4 overs.
