Officers from the Central Division Task Force yesterday shot and killed a murder and rape suspect yesterday during a shootout. According to police, around 2.30 pm, officers, led by Senior Superintendent Johnny Abraham, went to Sookhoo Trace, Claxton Bay, where Anthony “Sambo” Hepburn, 29, was believed to have been hiding out. Officers said as they arrived at the house and called out to him, he ran out firing at them. The lawmen returned fire, hitting Hepburn several times. He died at the scene.
Police said he was wanted in connection with the killing of Sean Jaikaran, 29, who was found on January 17 at the Trinidad Cement Ltd Recreation Ground, Claxton Bay. Hepburn was also wanted for the rape of a 13-year-old girl during a robbery at the home of her family two weeks ago. The teen positively identified the dead man as the person who raped her, police said. Hepburn is the fifth person to be killed by police for the year, according to a T&T Guardian toll.
