The Prime Minister with her just-found rage against perpetrators of statutory rape, cannot be really serious if she leaves intact, sections of the Muslim and Hindu marriage laws (Section 8 and Section 11 (1) respectively) that allow girls as early as ages 12 and 14 to be to be married to adult males. How can she continue to be incensed when the law makes it okay as long as it is done under the umbrella of these two faiths.
With the overwhelming majority of her administration in the House, amending these two pieces of legislation should be a breeze. The PM talks tough and recommends the jailing of doctors and others who do not report these offences. I wonder, what she would recommend for legislators who fail to do what is necessary to delegitimise this travesty against our children.
