Finance and the Economy Minister Larry Howai is expected to present the Miscellaneous Provisions (Licensing Committee) Bill 2014 for debate and approval in the Senate this afternoon. One of the clauses of the legislation seeks to establish licensing committees and to impose a duty on members of licensing committees to declare possible or perceived conflicts of interest for applications and to withdraw from considering those applications for liquor licences.

There are no questions for oral answer on the Senate order paper but one of the papers expected to be laid today is the response by the Commissioner of Police to the report of a Joint Select Committee on the administration and operations of the Police Service. That relates to efforts at maintaining law and order. Today’s sitting begins at 1.30 pm at Tower D, Wrightson Road, Port-of-Spain.
