Acting Prime Minister Colm Imbert has expressed concerned for Caribbean islands affected by Hurricane Irma.
In a statement issued by the Office of the Prime Minister, Imbert said T&T will do what it can to assist should the need arise.
The following is the acting Prime Minister's statement: "Today I, like many of you, remain deeply concerned for the members of our Caribbean family who have been affected or stand to be affected by the ‘potentially catastrophic’ Category 5 Hurricane Irma.
"We are grateful that some of the islands under threat yesterday were spared, in large measure, from the full force of the hurricane. We are also cognizant of the fact that others were severely battered and are still assessing their losses.
"As this powerful weather system continues on its trajectory our thoughts now turn to those nations still situated within its projected path. The Government is monitoring the activity of this severe weather system and its impact on our neighbours in the region.
:We have been in contact with some of our neighbours and will do what we can to assist should that occasion arise."
