Police questioned the vice-principal of a primary school in San Fernando over the weekend, after a pupil reported that he had fondled her. The girl’s mother made a report to police on Friday after the child made the shocking disclosure. Investigators said around 10 am during the recess break, the vice-principal reportedly stopped the Standard Five pupil in the library and cautioned her about her behaviour. The student said the school official then took her to another part of the library and began fondling her.
The student, who wrote the SEA exams a few weeks ago, was subsequently taken to the San Fernando Police Station by her mother, where she made a report. A medical examination revealed that her hymen was intact. Police later went to the home of the vice-principal and took him in for questioning. He has not yet been charged.
WPC Clement of the San Fernando Police Station is continuing investigations. Calls to the cellular phone of education Minister Dr Tim Gopeesingh went unanswered.
