Former Chaguanas West MP Jack Warner claims councillors on the Chaguanas Borough Corporation (CBC) are avoiding him like the plague. Warner said with the exception of councillor for Charlieville Falisha Isahak, all the councillors were avoiding him. He chalked this up to the fear of the councillors that they would be sidelined for the local government election due this year if they showed solidarity with him. “It is a very sad day that the very councillors who I worked with, up to two weeks ago, are afraid to be seen with me. Thank God that the rest of Chaguanas West haven’t done so. The time will come when they will come back to me and I will welcome them back with open arms,” Warner said.
Speaking with the media following a Mother’s Day function he hosted on Sunday at the Genspec Auditorium at Warren Road, Cunupia, Warner likened the councillors’ behaviour to that of the disciple Peter who denied Jesus Christ three times before Christ was arrested and subsequently crucified. “I read in the Bible where they said ‘deny me thrice’. This is the second time this has happened. I tell you something, there wouldn’t be a third. Except for Falisha Isahak, every councillor is under fear. Why? We are in the same party, we are in the same government. “What has been the difference? I keep making the point, everything I have done, everything I am doing, I spoke with the Prime Minister about it before and came to concurrence. Where is the fear? What is the victimisation? I would hate to think that one man is doing this,” he said.
Isahak was the only councillor who attended Warner’s function. She said she saw no reason to deny Warner her support. The councillor said even if she was not selected to run again for the Charlieville electoral district, she would remain loyal to her party. Warner expressed suspicions that “one man” whom he refused to name, may be the mastermind dictating the councillors action. “I would not like to think one man is behind this and don’t ask me to name his name, I won’t.” Warner said it was about time people started standing up for what they believed and stop cowering in fear.
