A Trinidadian drug mule who ingested several pellets of cocaine and attempted to board a flight to Europe in Jamaica, has been arrested and remains in police custody.
The man, who was arrested at the Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay on Sunday, remained under police guard at hospital where he was taken to naturally pass out the pellets.
Investigators collected 80 pellets which were excreted by the suspect between Sunday night and yesterday morning. He is expected to be charged with drug trafficking by the Jamaican Constabulary Force once he is cleared to be discharged from hospital.
According to reports, the suspect was arrested after he was stopped at the airport as he was due to board a flight destined for Brussels, Belgium.
Sources said police saw the suspect behaving suspiciously and noticed the foreign objects when he passed through an X-ray scanner.
The suspect’s arrest came days after the Canadian Border Services Agency announced that it had seized 43 kilos of cocaine in a shipping container from this country in May.
According to the agency, the drugs were found in a false floor of the container, which arrived at the Pearson International Airport in Toronto on May 5. No arrests were made by Canadian authorities in relation to the find.
