An anti-crime exercise specifically targeting gang members in the crime hotspot of Enterprise, Chaguanas, netted 16 people, a release from the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service said yesterday.

Around 12.15 pm on Tuesday, officers of the Central Division’s Special Crime Unit executed a search warrant at the Walter’s Lane, Enterprise home of a 23-year-old man.

One pistol with an extended magazine containing 14 bullets was recovered during the search, the release said.

The suspect is expected to be charged with possession of a firearm, ammunition and common assault.

The officers then went to Warren Road, Cunupia around 1 pm, where they arrested a 36-year-old man who was found in possession of 1.27 kilogrammes of high grade marijuana valued at $200,000.

He is expected to be charged with possession of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking.

Thirteen other people were also arrested for being in possession of marijuana, while one man was held with a quantity of cocaine.

Officers also searched an abandoned house at Primrose Drive, Chaguanas, where they found 50 rounds of 5.56mm ammunition and 500 grammes of marijuana.

No arrest was made in connection with that find.
