A Siparia man who was held by police after he allegedly robbed a taxi driver with a toy gun was yesterday remanded into custody until Monday.
Curtis Worrell, 33, also known as Ato Lezama, of Coora Road, appeared in the San Fernando Magistrates’ Court charged with two counts of robbery, assault with intent to rob and possession of an imitation firearm. All the victims were taxi drivers.
Worrell was arrested by PC Ragoonanan and PC Khan on High Street, San Fernando, shortly after he allegedly attempted to rob taxi driver Glenroy Codrington at gunpoint around 1.45 am on Wednesday. The officers, who were on foot patrol, searched him and a toy gun was allegedly found in his possession. He was charged by PC Ragoonanan.
Worrell was also charged with robbing Gregory Hussy, 46, at gunpoint while he was plying his car for hire at Pointe-a-Pierre Road, Vistabella, on Monday. He faced another charge of robbing taxi driver Brandon Nelson at gunpoint on Tuesday along Pointe-a-Pierre Road. PC Birbal and Mahabir charged him in those matters. Worrell was not asked to enter a plea to the charges when he appeared before First Court Senior Magistrate Cherril-Ann Antoine. He was denied bail so a fingerprint trace could be done to determine if he had a criminal record.
