The Port Authority of T&T has identified a roll-on roll-off boat—rather than a barge—to service the Tobago cargo route and is now awaiting inspection by Lloyds’ Register, Works Minister Rohan Sinanan has said.
Sinanan gave the update in the Senate yesterday, replying to questions on the cargo ferry service particularly from Opposition Senator Wade Mark.
Sinanan said, “Government and the Port Authority have listened to the plight of the Truckers’ Association and they (Port) are in the process of continuing the search for a suitable cargo vessel for the short term.”
“The port identified a roll-on roll-off vessel and they’re awaiting the inspection from Lloyds. Once that has been submitted to the port, and it should be there by today (Tuesday), the port’s board will make recommendations to the ministry. I’m very very hopeful this problem will be sorted out in shortest possible time.”
