Three men have been shot dead in three separate incidents between Friday night and yesterday morning. Meanwhile, a man and woman were both wounded in two of the shootings. Around 7 pm on Friday, 30-year-old Corrie Charles, a PH driver, of Chocolate Alley, Gonzales, was driving west along Upper Duke Street, when he stopped his car as the road was blocked by a group of men.
The men opened fire on the vehicle, shooting him several times. Charles and the occupant, a 19-year-old woman, were rushed to hospital. He died while being treated. The woman was reportedly warded at hospital in a stable condition up to late yesterday.
Inspector Harvey of the Port-of-Spain Homicide Bureau visited the scene and investigations are continuing. Around 9.30 pm on Friday 18-year-old Marcio Delpesche and 19-year-old Shakille Holder were standing along Rodney Street, Point Cumana, Carenage, when a heavily tinted car pulled up. A gunman got out of the car and began shooting at the men who started to run.
Holder, who lives on Rodney Street, was shot in the chest. Delpesche, of Schuller Street in Carenage, was chased by the gunman. He was shot in the head and chest. Police officers Khan and Jobe responded and took them to the St James Medical Complex where Delpesche died undergoing treatment.
Holder was transferred to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital, where he remains warded in critical condition. Police said the shootings may be gang related, as there is an active gang in the area. Officers said the gang was called City of God and an arrest is imminent. Inspector Henry Dann, Inspector Thomas and Inspector Hospedales from the Western Division, along with Sgt Harvey and Constable Benjamin of the Homicide Bureau visited the scene and are continuing investigations.
Meanwhile, the body of a man believed to be in his late 20s was found on the Blanchiseusse Road, Arima, around 3 am yesterday. Police responded to a report that a man was seen lying face down on the road. The victim had a gunshot wound to the back of his head. The man, who has dreadlocks, is said to be of mixed descent. Officers are working on a theory that he may have been killed elsewhere and his body dumped on the scene, at the two-and-a-quarter-mile mark on the Blanchisseuse Road.
