Car dealer Sheron Sukhdeo yesterday pleaded not guilty when he appeared before Chaguanas Magistrate Wendy Dougdeen-Bally charged with breaching a protection order.

Sukhdeo, who was represented by attorneys Taradath Singh and Stefan Ramkissoon, was supported in court by his mother. The 28-year-old was denied bail by the magistrate, who requested his passport be brought to court today before she fixes bail.

The matter began around  2.06 pm at the Chaguanas Second Magistrate’s Court and lasted close to two hours before it was adjourned to today. The T&T Guardian was put out of the courtroom by a police officer without reason, after he consulted with his colleagues.

Sukhdeo was arrested on Tuesday and was taken to court just before 2 pm from the Chaguanas Police Station yesterday. His wife, Rachael Sukhdeo, who he is alleged to have breached the order against, was absent yesterday but is expected to show up today.

In February last year, Sukhdeo appeared in court on a charge of assault allegedly committed against his wife. The case was dismissed eight months later, after Sukhdeo said she no longer wanted to pursue the matter. Sukhdeo was charged for allegedly breaking a three-year order barring him from coming into contact with his wife physically or verbally abusing her, which was granted by Magistrate Joanne Connor in March last year. His assault case against his wife was dismissed in October.

Around 12.05 am on Monday, police received a report of an alleged disturbance at the couple’s Orchard Gardens, Chaguanas mansion. The officers returned after midday on Tuesday and arrested the businessman.
