As the People’s Partnership celebrated its third anniversary on Friday night, Education Minister Dr Tim Gopeesingh called on supporters not to be bothered by the latest Market Facts and Opinion poll which showed declining support for Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar.
Speaking to the T&T Guardian as thousands of Partnership loyalists crowded Mid Centre Mall car park in Chaguanas, Gopeesingh said “polls must be taken with a grain of salt.” He said, “We know that the Prime Minister has tremendous support and one has to take all polls with a grain of salt because it does not show the true state of affairs at any time. “The results of the polls depend on when they did it, how they did it and what they did.
“We know that our PM is very popular more than any other politician in the history of T&T.” Asked what will be done to ensure that the Government regains points before the 2015 general election, Gopeesingh responded, “The Government is moving steadily forward and we will get back in government. Every ministry has been doing tremendous work and we have delivered to the people and because of our performance alone, we will be voted back into government based on our performance.”
He said the biggest achievement he made was to distribute laptops to thousands of children and provide Information, Communication Technology to students. However, Gopeesingh said the biggest challenge he faced was the bureaucracy when trying to get things done.
Circle of welcome for PM
Meanwhile, the Prime minister got a circle of welcome as she arrived at the rally on Friday night. Forty-one children from Boiserre RC Schol in Maraval met her as she alighted from her car and recited a poem for “Aunty Kamla.” To show their love, the children presented three crystal swans to Persad-Bissessar. The rally began at 7 pm. Thousands dressed in yellow, blew horns and waved flags as they celebrated the anniversary.
Former Chaguanas West MP Jack Warner was in the crowd. The crowd was entertained by Crazy, Denyse Plummer, Rikki Jai, Neval Chatelal, Shurwayne Winchester and Imij and Co.
