Freeport police are investigating the abduction of a 34-year-old man from the community on Sunday.

Ravi Anthony was reportedly walking along Lime Fruit Road with one of his cousins when a car pulled up alongside them. Anthony’s cousin managed to escape, but he was accosted by two of the vehicle’s occupants, beaten and thrown into the vehicle and taken away.

Up to late last night, Anthony remained missing and the family had received no calls for a ransom.

Speaking with the T&T Guardian yesterday, a relative, who wished not to be identified, said Anthony and his cousin left their home at Connector Drive, Nelson Road, between 3.30 pm and 4 pm to check out a job at the residence of a police officer. She added that on their way back they stopped at a bar for a few beers and to play a game of roulette.

“It was when they were walking back home that a silver Almera pulled up alongside them. The cousin (name called) saw when the car stopped and the men came out and headed towards them. He shouted to Ravi to run but like he didn’t hear him or he was in shock,” the relative said.

“The family is very much traumatised over this because they are confused as to why someone would want to take him away like that.”

Relatives described Anthony, a mason by trade, as a quiet individual who never troubled anyone.

“We never knew him to be threatened before or to have any enemies. He have no criminal records.”

Up to late last night one of Anthony’s close relative was said to be at the Freeport Police Station assisting the officers in their investigations. Police have retrieved CCTV footage from the area and were said to be viewing the footage in the hope of making a breakthrough.
