Former Minister of Trade and Industry, Vasant Bharath has described the late Dr Anthony Sabga as a man of "sterling business acumen with a heart of compassion".
Bharath issued a statement on the passing of Dr Sabga. He died at 6am Wednesday morning.
"I am so very saddened at the news of the passing of business icon Dr Anthony Sabga.
Dr Sabga came to Trinidad and Tobago as a young boy with his parents and out of adversity and challenges with the early death of his father, grew to become one of this hemisphere's most successful entrepreneurs.
As a businessman and founder of the ANSA McAL Group, he revolutionised the concept of conglomerate business, creating one of the largest group of companies on this side of the world.
What set him apart was his deep passion for education and innovation amoung young professionals.
The ANSA Caribbean Awards which he founded was his way of supporting and enhancing a national community that nurtured him. The Foundation shall indeed immortalise his memory as a man of sterling business acumen with a heart of compassion and love for the country he came to call his home.
My sincerest condolences to his wife, children and grandchildren, and extended family. May God keep them comforted in this time of tragic loss and hear us all as we pray for Dr Sabga's eternal rest and peace."
