A 30-year-old Barrackpore woman was rescued by police yesterday after she escaped from the trunk of a car.
Police said the woman’s hands were tied and a piece of cloth was stuffed in her mouth when she escaped. She reported that she had been kidnapped by two men on Saturday.
The woman told police she managed to kick her way out of the trunk after dislodging the back seat before she was rescued by an off-duty police officer passing along the M-2 Ring Road, near Gandhi Village, Debe, around 8 am.
It is the same area where a 26-year-old cashier was gang-raped by three men last February. Those men are now in police custody. The Barrackpore woman, whose identity has not been disclosed by the police, appeared to be drugged. She was taken for a medical examination.
The woman told police she was driving home on Saturday morning when two men intercepted her black B-13 Sentra. She said she was thrown into the back of an SUV before being blindfolded, gagged and tied up and taken to a house. The men fed her water and she could not remember anything else.
The woman was taken to the San Fernando General Hospital where she was given a sedative to rest. Investigators said they will do a proper interview once she is discharged.
Several clear fingerprints have since been lifted from the car and will be taken for analysis.
WP Sgt Morrison and PC Rampersad of the San Fernando CID are continuing investigations.
