Minister of the People and Social Development Dr Glenn Ramadharsingh says one of his official drivers was used by Jack Warner’s Independent Liberal Party (ILP) in an attempt to tarnish his character. Ramadharsingh made the comment during a news conference at his Port-of-Spain office on Monday. “They are soliciting persons to bring information to them to damage my character and reputation,” he said.

He was referring to an allegation by Warner that a government minister, whom he did not name, owned six houses. Ramadharsingh subsequently denied that he was the owner. The driver, who was present at the news conference, was not identified by name or allowed to speak but Ramadharsingh embraced him in a show of support.

He said the driver had told him his life was under threat “and then he went on to read from a script and now has totally distanced himself from that script and that scripted ploy to bring inaccurate information and further the baseless allegation.” The driver, Ramadharsingh said, was “a victim of a most despicable ploy.” Ramadharsingh said the driver had not indicated an intention to take any legal action but was exploring all his options

The Integrity Commission has launched an investigation into Warner’s allegations.
