The 44-year-old man who killed Denyse Seepersad-Joseph along the Old Tarouba Road, St Clement’s, on Saturday night, remains in police custody at the Ste Madeleine Police Station. Police plan to consult the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) on the case today. Around 7.30 pm on Saturday, as Seepersad-Joseph got out of her car with her four-year-old daughter, Abigail Joseph, the driver swerved in the roadway and hit the mother of four, who died instantly. An autopsy conducted by pathologist Dr Hughvon Des Vignes at the Forensic Science Centre in Port-of-Spain yesterday, revealed that Seepersad-Joseph died from blunt craniocerebral trauma. Abigail was thrown from her mother’s arms on impact and landed on a nearby patch of grass. She was recovering at hospital yesterday. According to witnesses, the driver slowed down, but then sped off. The driver, a Palmyra resident, eventually went to the San Fernando Police Station and reported that he “knocked something down.” He appeared drunk and was given a breathalyser test, which he failed. Ste Madeleine police said yesterday he was charged for drunk driving but it is likely he will also face a death caused by dangerous driving charge.
