Sixteen-month-old Antiq Hennis was shot dead on Sunday in his stroller in Brooklyn, New York, a report in the New York Daily News said yesterday. It said the child’s father, 23-year-old Anthony Hennis, was the intended target. Anthony and the child’s mother, who was unnamed, are reported to be Trinidadian. The newspaper said detectives believed the shooter was attempting to get back at Anthony for an earlier dispute.

It also quoted the New York Police Department Commissioner Raymond Kelly as saying the father was refusing to help investigators. “He has not answered questions. We are still trying to obviously determine his contacts and he has an extensive arrest record so we are looking into his relationships,” Kelly said. The newspaper said the police were pursuing several leads.

Anthony, the New York Daily Mail said, picked up little Antiq from the child’s home at Riverdale Avenue, Brownsville, about 7.15 pm for a visit with his great-grandmother, Lenore Steel, when the shots rang out. One bullet went through the baby’s head and two bullets pierced his stroller. Antiq died at Brookdale University Hospital about 90 minutes later, the newspaper said.
